Tomoko Matsuoka will hold a solo exhibition at the Meguro Museum of Art, Tokyo, as a report of her Louvre exhibition.

This time, Tomoko Matsuoka 2021 Paris – “Carrousel du Louvre Debriefing” will exhibit a collection of live performance works that she has done in Paris. We will present the results of these performances at the Meguro Kumin Art Museum Gallery.

France in October 2021 was a more important time for me than when I started painting. It was also the moment when I had a strong feeling in my heart that “I will live in this way.

In Paris and the Loire region, where I visited, there were many historical buildings, and the whole city seemed to contain the art of eternity.
There, I could feel the beauty of the buildings, the vastness of the sky, the beauty of the sunset, and the smallness of human beings with my whole body. When I faced the grandeur as a human being, what kind of artistic expression I could make, what I could bring out, and whether I could draw it out …… was a challenge in itself for me.

I also did a live painting at the Château de Chambord, a place that holds many memories for me.
After 20 years, I went back to the Château de Chambord.

I wanted to express the beauty of the Château de Chambord with my brush once again, in a place that I visited when I was a student, when I felt a loneliness that cannot be put into words.

This time, I also made an art book that summarizes these activities. I would like to deliver this book to those who have supported my challenge, and to those who will continue to challenge themselves in the future.

Even now, the events in France feel like a dream.
Through this project, I wanted to be a person who will continue to perform.
I wanted to be a person who will continue to express myself not only through a single performance of live painting, but also throughout my life.
It was, without a doubt, the densest and most impossibly moving few weeks of my life.

I am looking forward to seeing you at the venue.
